Saara allegedly snubbed as Walvis Bay

SOME Erongo delegates to the closed-door Swapo elective congress candidates campaign launch this weekend allegedly walked out of the meeting when it was Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila’s turn to submit her presentation.

This is after the party’s current vice president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, made her presentation.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila did not respond to questions sent to her.

She has been in the region on official duty since Thursday, where she addressed the Southern African Development Community state parties assessment tool pilot programme conference.

Mandume Mwatunga, a delegate from the Erongo region, denied that the delegates walked out on Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.

“The people followed honourable Netumbo to see her off, because she had to travel north to attend her brother’s funeral. It had nothing to do with the campaign,” Mwatunga said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah on Friday paid a courtesy call to the acting tribal head of the Topnaar community, chief Stoffel Anamab.

She also paid a courtesy call to the family members of the first Swapo vice president, the late Nathanael Maxuilili, before visiting his grave at Kuisebmond Cemetery.

“This is the highest respect we can give and aspiration we can get, and we should embrace it with all our heart and mind . . . internalise to guide us throughout, particularly this year, when we know its a very important year in the life of the Swapo party to make sure we prepare our congress, and we come out united in a way that people like Maxuilili stood for,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
