A police officer working at Otjiwarongo police station is due to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after one of six rhino horns left in his care went missing.

The rhino horns were part of a dehorning process from Ongava Game Reserve in the Otjozondjupa region.

According to the Namibian Police media liaison office, inspector Raimbert Muronga, the incident happened over the weekend when one of the six rhino horns went missing in the hands of the suspect.

Muronga said the suspect was allegedly given six rhino horns that were part of a dehorning process from the game reserve situated in the Otjiwarongo district to book them in at Otjiwarongo police station.

However, one of them went missing.

He said the suspect was confronted about the missing horn but could not give a satisfactory answer, leading to his arrest.

The missing rhino horn weighs 12 kilograms and is valued at N$96 000.
