The police in the Zambezi region are investigating a murder case after the death of a police officer, two days after he allegedly had been assaulted in the Liselo area on Friday.
The officer has been identified as sergeant Matomola Friedelis Sibungo (33), who was stationed at Simon Mutumba Training Centre.
The police’s spokesperson in Zambezi, inspector Kisco Sitali, confirmed Sibungo’s death to The Namibian on Monday.
Sitali said community members found Sibungo lying injured next to a tarred road around 22h20 on Friday. Sibungo was taken to Katima Mulilo State Hospital, where he died early Sunday morning, Sitali said.
He added that it is suspected Sibungo had been assaulted by unknown persons.
A police investigation of Sibungo’s death is continuing.
