AN intern doctor at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital this week told the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court he and his alleged victim were “helping each other sexually”.
Lawson Shaende (31) stands accused of raping a student (20) from a northern university on Sunday.
Shaende yesterday told the court he and the student spent the night together, and that he promised to give her N$1 000 at the end of the month.
He said this angered the student, upon which she reported to the police that she was raped.
The student, whose name is withheld due to the sensitivity of the case, in her police statement, said Shaende raped her at a house at Ongwediva on Sunday.
After the incident, she said Shaende started praying loudly, and told her to repeat the prayer after him.
She said prior to the rape, she asked Shaende not to rape her and that she is HIV-positive.
He denied raping the victim, saying they have been “helping each other sexually”.
Shaende remains in custody.
Magistrate Ivan Gawanab postponed the matter to Monday for a formal bail application.
Pieter Greyling represented the accused.
