Two child rapes reported over long weekend


TWO minor girls were allegedly raped in north-central Namibia recently.

A five-year-old girl was raped at Okaluwa village in the Ohangwena region last Thursday at around 16h00, allegedly by a 16-year-old suspect.

According to a crime report released by the Namibian Police on Sunday, the suspect and the victim were found naked on the bed by the victim’s grandmother.

The victim told her grandmother what had happened, and that it was not the first time she had allegedly been sexually assaulted.

The suspect has been arrested and police investigations continue.

A nine-year-old girl was raped at Oshakati, allegedly by a 16-year-old suspect.

The incident happened on 19 August at 08h00 at Omusati gwa Niita village.

The victim was allegedly left in the care of the suspect, who is a family member, by her grandmother who went to a wedding.

The case was only reported last Thursday, when the victim’s life skills teacher questioned her after observing her strange behaviour.

The suspect has not yet been arrested and is on the run.

Police investigations continue.

In a separate matter at Katima Mulilo, a 27-year-old man was arrested for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl on Friday at Mission compound.

It is alleged that the suspect grabbed the victim, pulled her into his room and raped her after she asked him for directions.

The suspect will appear in court on Monday. Meanwhile, police investigations continue.

In another incident, a 42-year-old Namibian man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a 37-year-old woman by kicking, beating and raping her on Friday at around 21h00 at Lüderitz after accusing her of sleeping with other men.

It is further alleged that the suspect also beat his and the victim’s two-year-old toddler.

Police investigations continue.
