Rape accused activist granted bail

A WALVIS Bay community activist who is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl who was at the time living with her parents in a backyard flat at his house was granted N$15 000 bail on Thursday.

Irvin Summers appeared before Walvis Bay magistrate John Sindano who granted him bail on the condition he and his immediate family do not directly or indirectly contact the alleged victim or her family.

His case was postponed to 11 October 2022.

The court also ordered Summers to surrender his passport and any other travel documents.

Summers was also ordered to report at the Narraville police station every week on Wednesdays between 07h00 and 19h00 and he must not leave Erongo region without informing the investigating officer in the case.

The raped allegedly took place between May and August 2021.

Summers was arrested on 28 August after he allegedly attempted to lure the alleged victim to his house for sex in exchange for N$500.

Lay litigant August Maletzky testified for Summers in the matter.
