Public urged to prioritise standing committee meetings

THE chairperson of the National Council, Lukas Sinimbo Muha, has called on the public to attend meetings with parliamentary standing committees as a means of participating in the legislative process.

“There are times, as parliament, we send out parliamentary committees to engage the communities. And it is expected that all Namibians attend such engagements.

“Attendance during parliamentary standing committee engagements is cardinal because you get a chance to contribute to a piece of legislation that is about to be enacted,” Muha told The Namibian recently.

Muha and National Council executive director Tousy Namiseb are conducting regional engagements with the public to explain the mandate of parliament, including the National Council.

They are currently visiting communities in the Omaheke region, after recent engagements in the Hardap region.
