No holding back Olomide’s fans

[ad_1]

DESPITE rain in the capital, Congolese rhumba star Koffi Olomide’s fans came out in numbers to move their hips on Saturday night to the artist’s show at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium.

Olomide, real name Antoine Mumba, performed for the first time in Namibia after his last performance in 2005.

Activists recently called for the show to be cancelled due to allegations of sex abuse and the artist keeping dancers against their will.

The show attracted a crowd and a special appearance by president Hage Geingob.

“Papa, papa . . !” a fan yelled when the band started playing and the artist’s dancers started hypotinising the crowd.

“That’s my father, I call him Olo olo,” the fan said.

Another fan said she had a good time, and that local artists also gave their best.

“The local artists brought flavour to the show. Koffi was amazing, and the organisers did a great job,” she said.

Local artists performing included DJ Yessonia, DJ Siya, Top Cheri, King Tee Dee, Tate Buti, Adora, Tswazi, DJ Vuyo, PDK, and more.

Unomengi Kauapirura, another fan, on Saturday said it was a beautiful night.

“You know when Koffi said goodbye and got off stage I felt like crying. It was beautiful, it was peaceful, and he really delivered,” she said.

“He performed my favourite . . . the very first song was ‘Effrakata’! Even if you can’t dance, you can dance to Koffi’s music. The girls were beautiful, and the band looked amazing,” she said.

VVIP COMPLAINTS

Some VVIP fans, however, felt their view of the show was limited.

A VVIP ticket cost N$3 000, a VIP ticket N$1 500, a golden circle ticket N$600, a general ticket N$350, and early birds paid N$300 per ticket, which sold out fast.
