A Namibian Defence Force member died after he allegedly lost control of the vehicle he was driving and it overturned in the Sikubi area on the Trans-Zambezi highway on Monday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abel Hikkie, and his next of kin have been notified.
Zambezi regional police spokesperson inspector Kisco Sitali confirmed the accident, which happened at 16h10.
Hikkie was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser carrying 14 other staff members when the accident happened.
“They were on their way to Kongola Base from Katima Mulilo when the accident occurred. They were all rushed to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital. Unfortunately, the driver was pronounced dead around 17h54. Only three victims are still hospitalised and are in a stable condition,” Sitali said on Tuesday.
A case of culpable homicide, and reckless and negligent driving, C/R 144.09.2022, was registered at Katima Mulilo Police Station and investigations continue.
