Namwandi mourns son’s death – The Namibian

THE former minister of education, David Namwandi, is mourning the death of his son, Richard Namwandi (30), who allegedly took his own life on Monday at around 21h00 at the Ongwediva Electronic guest house.

Namwandi Senior told The Namibian that his son’s death was a shock, as he was not sickly, nor did he show any signs of stress or depression.

“I feel bad. I did not see this coming. I really do not know why he had to take his own life in that manner. I’m not even aware if he was going through any problems because he did not show any signs and he did not confide anything to me or anyone at home,” said the former minister.

He described his son as a jovial person who was always smiling.

“We are still waiting for the post-mortem to confirm his exact cause of death. Everything happened so fast and we are all in shock. He was so dear to me,” he said.

The father could not shed any more light on the matter, as the police are handling everything.

However, funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. According to the police crime report, the deceased booked a room at the guest house on the same day that he took his life.

Oshana police spokesperson inspector Thomas Aiyambo said the deceased was from Okapya village in the Oshana region.

No suicide note was left behind.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
