Naban holds third round of pitches

The Namibia Business Angel Network (Naban) recently held its third pitch event in Windhoek, sponsored by First National Bank of Namibia.

Four start-up founders were shortlisted to pitch, hoping to obtain investments from the network of angel investors.

Investors, start-ups, and external stakeholders from the private and public sector attended the event.

Naban received over 40 applications for its pitch event, followed by a diligent preselection process.

The four promising start-ups which pitched are Two Point Delivery and Logistics, Nel’s Babies and Kiddies, Pre-Eminence Financial, and Eagles Pizza.

The pitchers had the opportunity to pitch for five minutes, which was followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer session with the ‘business angels’.

Questions focused on viability, scalability, and the regulatory framework within which the start-ups operate, as well as issues around intellectual property.

Naban is in the process of facilitating the due diligence process and investment negotiations.

If successful, the start-ups will receive a cash injection from the angels in exchange for an equity stake in the start-up.

The new shareholders will also act as strategic partners of the founders, supporting them with, for example, strategy advice, contact and important negotiations.

The Naban angels, some of whom are successful entrepreneurs themselves, understand that early stage funding is a door-opener for start-ups.

It helps them to fine-tune their business model, acquire clients, form partnerships, and generate revenue.

Naban comprises 21 individuals from different professional backgrounds.

All angels believe in the importance of entrepreneurship as a catalyst for economic growth, and are willing to invest their private excess money in start-ups in exchange for shares in the company.

In addition to a cash injection, the start-up founder benefits from the network of their new business partners, who, in many cases, also act as mentors.
