Man dies after jackpot machine attack

THE Oshikoto police are investigating a case of murder after a man was attacked after winning money from a jackpot machine.

The incident happened last week on Thursday. However, the victim, whose name cannot be divulged as his next of kin are yet to be informed, died on Sunday at the Oshakati State Hospital.

The victim was visiting Omahenene cuca shops at Iihambo village where he was playing a jackpot machine.

“The suspect approached the deceased after his money was paid out. An argument ensued and the suspect pulled the deceased out of the bar. While outside, he [suspect] ran to his vehicle and took out a steel tube with which he lashed out at the deceased, hitting him on the forehead,” Oshikoto police regional commander commissioner Teopoline Nashikaku said.

The victim, a 30-year-old man from Oshinyadhila village, was rushed to the Omuthiya hospital and later transferred to the Oshakati hospital where he died.

The 40-year-old suspect was arrested and was expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
