A 29-year-old man took his own life by hanging after allegedly killing his 37-year-old girlfriend at Onanke village in Omuthiya on Saturday night.
Namibian Police liaison officer inspector Raimbert Muronga confirmed the incident on Sunday.
Muronga said the incident happened at around 23h00 at Onanke village in the Omusati region.
He said the deceased, along with the girlfriend, travelled from Otjiwarongo the same day and upon arrival at the village, he allegedly started assaulting his girlfriend for no apparent reason.
“It is alleged the deceased assaulted the girlfriend with a hoe handle all over her body and thereafter, put a rope around her neck and hanged her in their hut.
“He then also allegedly hanged himself in the same traditional hut,” Muronga explained.
The deceased have been identified as Bernhard Onyevene and his girlfriend Taimi Fellemon.
Their next of kin have been informed and their bodies were taken to the Omuthiya police mortuary.
