Man accused of killing mother denied bail

A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Mukwe constituency in the Kavango East, who was arrested for the alleged murder of his mother last Thursday, was denied bail on Friday.

Matende Ndjiunga was remanded in custody for the alleged murder of his mother at Diyogha village when he made his first court appearance in Rundu on Friday.

Ndjiunga appeared before magistrate Selma Shiiga, who denied him bail due to the seriousness of the case.

He faces charges of murder read with Domestic Violence Act 4 of 2003 and violating a dead body.

He was remanded in custody to 26 January 2023, when he will make his second appearance in the Mukwe periodic court.

Ndjiunga was arrested last week after he allegedly fatally hit his 57-year-old mother, Theresia Kapinga, with a pounding stick at her homestead at Diyogha village.

According to the police, after realising that he had killed his mother, Ndjiunga allegedly dug a hole in the ground, intending to bury the body.

However, he found the ground too hard to dig, so he allegedly fled the scene and was only arrested after a community member, who went to the homestead with the intention to visit Kapinga, discovered the crime and alerted the police.
