Lüderitz senior citizens get free haircuts

LüDERITZ resident Amutenya Stephanus is offering senior citizens at the town free haircuts.

Amutenya, who owns a beauty salon and barbershop, says he came to the decision after an elderly man from Mariental visited his shop for a haircut.

“I gave him a discount. The appreciation on his face was priceless, and he asked God to bless me.

“The elderly are struggling to make ends meet, and we have to help them.

“I do not have elderly family members at Lüderitz, but the ones here are like my own parents. I’ve decided to bring the elderly joy, and I plan to offer the free haircuts for as long as I have this business,” he says.

Amutenya says his wife is especially excited and supportive of his venture.

Five senior citizens will be assisted from Mondays to Saturdays, and 10 on Sundays, he says.

Only those who depend on government old-age grants with no other source of income will be assisted.

Amutenya urges other businesses to help make life easier for the elderly.

Lüderitz community member Wenoden Visagie applauds Amutenya for his generosity.

“It is really a good gesture from this man. He is known for his big heart around here. We really need to take care of our pensioners, as they already do not have enough.

“It is not only a blessing to the receiver, but it also comes back as a blessing to the giver,” he says.
