KWAITO, Afro pop and Damara punch artist Nelumbu Gideon, known as Kinzzo, has broken out of his comfort zone with his latest album, ‘Minha Victoria’, meaning “my victory” in Portuguese.

The artist’s latest offering includes different genres, such as ndombolo, kwaito, amapiano, gospel and Afro pop.

The 31-year-old artist released his first album, ‘Ikwatelela’, known for its two hits, ‘Ikwatele’ and ‘I Don’t Know Where to Go’, in 2015.

Albums under his belt are ‘Tonya’, ‘Haendjo’, ‘Iimwaku’, and ‘Art of House’.

After making music for almost six years, Kinzzo has been touted as ‘The king of Swakopmund’ by his fans.

Apart from being a singer, he is also a music producer, and has produced albums for artists such as The Dogg, Ou Stakes Stanley, Kalux, Young T, Gazza, Exit, Tate Buti, Mbuku, Female Donkey, Chester House Prince, and various upcoming artists.

“This album means a lot to me, and I am grateful to have worked with big artists on it.

“Releasing this album feels like a dream come true. For this project I have worked really hard.

“The songs are mixed with live band recordings. The main message is that victory gives you a heroric feeling that allows winners to reach the top after hours of hard work and dedication.

“The album is a very hot danceable album, mainly for jukeboxes, or listening to in the car,” Gideon says.

The album contains 17 songs and features artists such as Exit, Tate Buti, Dama Monique, Yabolova, Ou Stakes, Sasa Saya, VDKey Crazy Boy, Chakibeatz, and Torshlam.

“Track 7, titled ‘You Can’t Stop Me’, brings out the message that in life there are people who do not want you to succeed. They just want to see you down.

“This track is a prayer, saying nobody can stop me, because I am protected by God, and he is always there for me. Through track number 1, ‘Konghola’, I want to urge the public to never give up on life.

“The door will eventually open. You just have to keep knocking,” he says.

Gideon says the album is proof of his growth as an artist.

He says his new album contains more kwasa kwasa songs, and it is the first time he has recorded with a live band.

“What remains the same is my style of producing, which most people already know,” Gideon says.
