Khomas continue good start – The Namibian

KHOMAS continued their good start in the netball tournament at the Namibian Newspaper Cup powered by Standard Bank with two more victories in the afternoon session.

After beating Erongo 28-21 in the morning, they beat Otjozondjupa by the exact same score in the afternoon.

It was a close encounter though and Otjozondjupa gave a fine performance with their player Grace Matyayi winning the player of the match award.

Khomas followed that win up with a 43-15 victory against Ohangwena. Khomas were comfortably ahead from the start, leading 9-3, 21-78 and 32-12 at the end of the first three quarters.

Erongo, meanwhile, gave a great performance as they beat Oshikoto 64-10.

Erongo attacked from the onset, taking a 21-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, and then 34-7 by half time and 47-7 by the third quarter.

Jurinda Fourie of Erongo won the player of the match award.

Erongo followed that up with a 38-18 win against Ohangwena, after leading 10-3, 19-8, 28-13 after the first three quarters.

Oshana had to pull out all the stops before beating Kunene 25-19.

The game was still wide open after the first three quarters, with Oshana narrowly leading 6-5, 12-11 and 18-17 before they pulled away in the final quarter.

Oshana however lost 27-26 to Omaheke after squandering an early lead in another close encounter.

Oshana led 8-3, 14-11 and 21-20 after the first three quarters before Omaheke overtook them in the final quarter to win the match by a single point.

Kunene beat Omusati 25-12 after lading 6-3, 13-7 and 19-9 after the first three quarters, while Zambezi beat Omaheke 30-18.
