Karibib Police Station inmates claim abuse

[ad_1]

TRIAL-AWAITING inmates at the Karibib Police Station recently cried for help in a series of text messages.

The messages describe callous and abusive behaviour of police officers at the station towards those detained.

“We are inmates from the Karibib Police Station. We need people to come and rescue us. We are dying. The more we give information on how the police are treating us here, the more we get beaten.

“Every week we are getting beaten for no reason at all. We want to spread what is happening here,” one of the messages reads.

Other allegations are that inmates with money are allowed to pay for privileges, such as being visited by women.

“They hide our food, and those of us on ARVs are not given our medicine,” a message reads.

National police spokesperson deputy commisisoner Kauna Shikwambi says she is not in a position to comment on the matter.

“These remain allegations. We are waiting for a detailed report from Erongo, then we can share that information,” she says.
