President Hage Geingob called for peace and resolution of conflicts at the United Nations General Assembly convening in New York this week.

Geingob, who addressed the assembly on Wednesday evening, called for the lifting of sanctions against Cuba and Zimbabwe while advocating for an end to the Palestinian conflict.

“The continued injustices meted out against the people of Palestine are a reminder of the urgent need to implement the two-state solution as the only viable alternative that can end inequality and bring peace to the peoples of Palestine, Israel and the region,” he said.

He condemned the member states’ snail pace in implementing Western Sahara resolutions.

“The lack of progress in implementing the United Nations resolutions to resolve the question of Western Sahara should be something we bear collective shame for,” the president said.

Furthermore, he called on Lesotho, Eswatini and Mozambique to hold peaceful elections.

“In that vein, I have commenced dialogue with the leaders of Eswatini, Lesotho and Mozambique to ensure the successful implementation of the Southern African Development Community decisions for peace and stability to prevail in our region,” he added.
