Copper wire theft reported in Omusati, Oshikoto


Copper theft has been reported in two separate incidents in the Omusati and Oshikoto regions between 16 and 22 September.

Police in Omusati report theft of copper wire worth N$200 000.

Omusati police crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Malakia Simaho said the suspects have been identified as Willem Shilongo (47) and Fillipus Festus (51).

They allegedly cut the copper wire from Telecom lines at Olufuko and Okakwa at Outapi.

“They cut 15 kilometres of copper wire and someone in Opuwo saw them and reported the incident to the police. Both suspects have been subsequently arrested and appeared in court where they were remanded in custody for further investigations.

Simaho said some of the copper wire had been recovered.

n the Oshikoto region, police also made a discovery of N$58 000 worth of copper wire, discovered at a scrap yard on 22 September at Velnet Metal and Scrap Okakwiyu at Oniipa.
