Boxing academy cares for elderly

Young members of the Bernardo Boxing Promotion Academy visited the Kuisemond Old Age Home at Walvis Bay earlier this month.

The owner of the academy and former boxer Bernhard Tjaverua and 10 boys aged 7-15 years cleaned the windows and gave the senior citizens some soup and fruits. Former Walvis Bay mayor Willfried Immanuel joined them on their visit.

Tjaverua encouraged young people to take care of their elderly.

“We decided to do it because they are our elders. I always dreamt about helping the elders wherever I can. I grew up in the hands of old people; I am concerned about them. This is how best I could help them. We plan to do this three times a year,” he said.

The boxing academy was started in 2016 for Walvis Bay boys.
