LOVERS and Friends Wine Club in conjunction with Dolce & Kapana will be hosting a wine-tasting event aimed at embracing street food.

The event is themed ‘Let’s Wine and Kapana’, and is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 15 October, at Shisha Shine Car Wash in Windhoek’s Southern Industrial area.

According to organiser and founder of Lovers and Friends Silas Malima, the initiative aims to embrace local street food and the best wines.

“Just like South Africa have ‘Braai Day’, maybe it’s high time to have a ‘Kapana Day’ here. Wine and kapana pairing is changing the narrative,” says Malima.

Wine lovers will get to choose and pair the best wines, he says.

“We have three varieties of red wines that we are going to offer – Pinotage, Merlot, and Bordeaux-style reds.”

He says the selection of wines offer easy-drinking and soft tannins which complement the kapana, spices and salsas.

The event will offer unlimited kapana and wine tasting, as well as live DJs.

“The event is going to be what Namibians are missing. There will be no VIP section because the entire setting is already for VIPs. People must expect a red carpet and elegant décor, premium wine and quality meat,” says Malima.

Joe Shafa Erkkie from Dolce & Kapana says he had been looking to collaborate with a wine brand for some time when he met Malima.

“After finding out how much he knows about wines, it was a no-brainer for us,” says Erkkie.

He says he is looking forward to tapping into the wine-drinking community.

“Being pioneers in this collaboration is quite historical, imagine our very own kapana merging with a brand or a drink of high calibre, I’m definitely enthusiastic and excited,” Erkkie says.

Dolce & Kapana will offer grade A meat for kapana, secret salsa sauce, as well as sweet, baked vetkoek.

“Since the aim is to give our guests a night not to be forgotten, we have limited the number of tickets to 100, so people should purchase tickets on time to avoid disappointment,” says Malima.

Tickets cost N$300 each and gates open at 18h00.
